So what does the PPP family think?

I was really excited when SproutBaby.com contacted Penny Pinching Parent and wanted to see if we would be interested in reviewing their organic baby food. The packaging and the fact that this food is made from natural, organic ingredients were very appealing to me as a mom. I have to also admit hearing that Tyler Florence helped to create Sprout Baby Food was intriguing... made me wonder what it tasted like.

Since my daughter is now at the toddler age, I will be sharing my input from the perspective of a mom who made all of the baby food she fed to her little one and as a mom who would consider feeding a high quality product such as Sprout Baby Food to a future baby. Also, there will be points shared that come from the perspective of a mom who helped out and tried feeding the Sprout Baby Food to her little one... in an effort to make a smooth review that flows, those points will all be shared together.

Things we love about Sprout Baby Food?

  • It's Natural- We love the fact that it's all natural, no preservatives or additives.
  • Organic- We love the fact that it's made certified organic ingredients.
  • Pouches- We love the pouches. Don't have to worry about broken jars, where to heat, etc. The pouches make it easier to heat the food when you are traveling out and about... since they are slim, you can just run under (or soak in) some warm water and have them evenly warm in no time, or you don't have to warm them at all. We also really like that they are resealable and BPA free.
  • Quality & Consistency- The quality of the purees resemble homemade baby food. There is actually texture to the food... just like homemade and something not always found in your typical store bought baby food.
  • Flavor-It's hard to ask a baby what they think of baby food... you usually assume if they eat it, it taste good, at least to them. Well, I personally tasted the Apples & Blueberries and it was honestly absolutely delicious. The funny thing is that my toddler was sitting there and asked to help me taste it and she wound-up eating the whole pouch. She actually begged me for more and said it was yummy applesauce. I'm thinking if a picky toddler even likes it... it must be good yummy!

Is there anything we didn't like?

The only thing we can think of is, even though we love the pouches, we do wish they were recyclable. Right now, the package is not currently recyclable, but after a quick trip over to SproutBaby.com, I see this is something that is a future goal. I also was able to read about the the environmental impact of the pouches used versus the typical glass baby food jar...

"In comparing the pouch to glass, which is the material used in the majority of competitors products, Sprout Foods found that the energy (fossil fuels) used over the entire life of the glass package for its manufacture and transport far exceeds the energy that goes into the manufacturing and transporting of a pouch package."

The company has set making the package recyclable as a long-term goal and it honestly would not be enough to keep me from buying it at this point. For me, the quality, ingredients, convenience, etc. far outweigh this one thing, PLUS... the packaging is BPA free, which is important to me.

Overall thoughts?

We were very impressed with Sprout Baby Food. The biggest complaint or comeback I hear from other moms when I mention I made my daughters food is, "I don't have time to do that." Even though I don't think it really takes that much time, I get where other moms are coming from- I don't know now with a toddler if I would have time to do it again. That's where a choice like Sprout Baby Food comes in... homemade quality with store bought convenience. And, if convenience is a biggie for you, there's a Sprout Baby Club, where you can order once a month and get free shipping and special discounts.

If you are looking for something above and beyond your average baby food, then PPP thinks you should definitely check out Sprout Baby Food.

A little more information about SproutBaby.com...

SproutBaby.com is more than just a baby food retailer. They offer a variety of earth-friendly products for mom and baby.

This is a little expert from a letter I received from CEO and Co-Founder, Jody Sherman, along with the samples and I thought it did such a great job of encompassing what SproutBaby.com is all about and wanted to share it with readers:

"SproutBaby.com was formed on the idea that, given enough information and access, parents would gladly choose products that are healthy for their children as they are good for the earth, and we don't believe that parents should have to sacrifice wholesome options on the account of accessibility. We hope SproutBaby.com will serve as an online resource as well as a network of support for parents who want to make earth-conscious decisions. We see ourselves as a a part of a growing movement, and we partner with companies who share out commitment to children, the planet and the future. As a further part of that commitment, one percent of SproutBaby.com's gross sales goes directly to our nonprofit partner, Healthy Child Healthy world (healthychild.org), which is dedicated to protecting young children against harmful chemicals in our environment."

As you can see, this company is so much more than baby food. It's a company with a vision. Their tag line or motto if you will is "Love your baby. Love the planet" and this strikes such a chord with me as a mom... isn't that what we all as parents want? To love our children, give them what's best for them and make sure they have the resource, including our planet, that they need for the future. I am tremendously impressed all around with SproutBaby.com and am so glad to have had the opportunity to provide you readers with this review and information about such an inspiring company.
